“My figurative portraits express a sense of self-identity in Black culture. Together, they feature complex, varied narratives, which are my attempt document the connections and capture the realities of Black urban life. I seek to capture the diverse socioeconomic conditions of that shape life for people and artists of colour. My work also reflects the extremes of poverty and luxury in representations of Black people. I seek to not only find the beauty of both but also to debunk simplistic narratives of Black culture.”
